The “Match the Hatch” Online Course is geared towards the beginner/intermediate angler. Understanding basic entomology is key in becoming an independent angler. Are you feeling overwhelmed when going into a fly shop and seeing hundreds if not thousands of different flies with names that don’t make any sense? Do you know what fly to start your day with?
We’re taking some of this intimidation out and providing a course that shares ways of choosing the right fly for the specific water you are fishing. We’ll start with the basics of how to determine a dry versus a wet fly, fly types and the 4 fly categories. We’ll then share ideas of how to research flies and the beginning of understanding hatch charts. Next we’ll discuss the 5 factors to choosing the right fly. Finally, we’ll finish the course with an introduction to fly fishing entomology and share fly patterns that mimic specific stages of each insect.
